What is duplex board used for?
Folding cartons, principally — the printed retail boxes most packaged goods in India ship in. It is a multi-ply board with a coated white face made to print, crease and fold cleanly, so it goes into monocartons, sleeves, outer packs and display cartons. It is not a rigid board: anything that has to stay stiff and unfolded is built from kappa board instead.
What gsm duplex board is used for cartons?
Common carton grammages run 250-350 gsm, lighter for small packs and heavier where the carton is large or carries weight on a shelf. Grammage alone is rarely a complete specification for duplex, though — coating weight and mill grade change how the same gsm performs on press and on the creasing line. What do HWC and LWC mean in duplex board?
High weight coated and low weight coated: how much coating sits on the printing face. HWC carries more coating, giving a smoother surface, better ink holdout and stronger colour, and it costs more. LWC carries less and is chosen where the print is simple or the budget governs. Two boards at the same grammage can be either, which is why the code appears in quotes and purchase orders.
What is GD2 grade duplex board?
GD2 is a mill grade code for a coated board with a recycled core, part of the GD1, GD2, GD3 and UD2 family used across duplex specifications. The codes describe ply composition and coating rather than grammage, and mills apply them to their own ranges, so a GD2 from one mill is not identical to a GD2 from another. Quote the code with grammage, back and coating weight, and confirm against a sample.
Is duplex board the same as folding box board?
They overlap without being identical. Folding box board, FBB, is the international name for the coated carton board class and in India usually means virgin-fibre board — what spec sheets call SBS. Duplex is the multi-ply board with a recycled core and a grey or white reverse. Both fold into cartons; the difference is the fibre, and with it the price and where each is specified.
