What is BF in kraft paper?
BF is burst factor, the measure of how much pressure the sheet withstands before it ruptures, and it is quoted alongside grammage rather than instead of it. A 120 gsm 18 BF sheet and a 120 gsm 28 BF sheet weigh the same and behave completely differently under load. An enquiry giving gsm alone cannot be quoted accurately — state both, or state the end use and let the grade be matched.
Which is stronger, 18 BF or 28 BF kraft paper?
28 BF. The number is a direct measure of burst resistance, so a higher figure is stronger at the same grammage, and it costs more. 18 BF is common in lighter wrapping and general packaging; higher BF grades go into corrugated liners and boxes carrying weight or travelling long distances. Choose against the load and the journey rather than against the number alone.
